Jacques Dupont was the celebrated lion tamer of the Cirque d'hiver de Paris. He mastered the most dangerous exercise by far: letting the big cats jump through a tire that he himself holds. He deeply impressed Sidonie Otterbourne. She fell in love with him, the dashing artist Jacques "Le Tigre" Dupont. Sidonie joined him at the circus for the sake of it, the crazy thing, went to America with Jacques and gave him the daughter Emerald.
